Field Trip to "A Chapa"

A Chapa

As part of our investigation into How the World Works, PYP 2 students went on a field trip to learn more about production processes and about the chain, from production to consumption.

At "A Chapa", they saw a machine that grinds meat and were able to make their own burger patties. They watched the patties being grilled and tasted the burgers they made themselves. Then, they learnt a pancake recipe, watched Mr. Germano making it and tried pancakes with maple syrup.

Finally the students visited their kitchen. They saw all the machinery used to help the cooks make their delicious food and went into the storage room, where all the ingredints used to make their meals are kept. One of the highlights of trip was seeing the freezers filled with french fries, onion rings, bread and ice cream.

Back at school, we talked about what they have learnt from their latest field trip and made comparissons with their previous experiences at "Bauducco". It has been an amazing Unit of Inquiry, filled with new information, hands on activities and children engagement.

Take a look at the amazing moments captured there...

We would like to thank all the parents involved in making this Unit so interesting and engaging for our students.

Bauducco

Field Trip to Bauducco

PYP2's current Unit of Inquiry is under the transdisciplinary theme "How the World Works" and the central idea is "Materials can be combined to be used in daily life".

In class we have been tunning in by talking about natural resources, wondering where they can be found and how they can be combined. Our field trip to Bauducco was to find out more about production processes. Back in the classroom, we talked about what they saw and what they understood from the visit to the factory and it`s amazing to see the learning happening up-close.

There the students saw step-by-step how the raw ingredients were mixed and transformed into bread then toast, and into "rocambole". One of the highlights of the trip was the "chocolate shower" the cake took after being baked.

Take a look at the pictures from our expedition...

How to make bread

PRODUCTION

PYP 2 pupils are investigating the use of resources
to make products and recently
had the opportunity to learn how to make bread.

It was a rich experience for everyone!

Children not only practised their reading and writing skills to follow a recipe and record it, but also used their senses to go
through the whole process of bread making.

1- Mixing all the ingredients.

2- Kneading the dough. Waiting. Kneading some more.

3- Making shapes.

4- Baking them.

"A memorable learning journey."

As you can see on the pictures, boys and girls pulled up their sleeves and got their little hands to work.
They mixed the ingredients, kneaded the dough and made
their own special shapes.
Everyone around school could smell the delicious smell
coming out of the oven... and we all enjoyed the
 warm bread with butter.
Yummy!

Do you want to give it a try at home?

Here is the recipe:

4 cups of warm water
2 spoons of yeast
2 spoons of sugar
1 small spoon of salt
2 spoons of butter
1 kilo of flour

Mix the ingredients well. Wait for 15 minutes. Knead the dough for about15 minutes. Make shapes. Wait for an hour. Put them in the oven to bake.

Enjoy....

Rhythmic Gymnastics in PYP 2
PYP 2 Omega and Sigma watched a PYP 3 PE assembly.
They saw children performing rhythmic gymnastics using ribbons and hoops. After the assembly, they were invited to try the movements in the court, listening to the same songs.

Easter Egg Hunt

PYP 2 had their Easter Egg Hunt in school before the half term break!

Little chocolate eggs were hidden in the playground and children had to find them. Children collected the eggs in baskets that they had made throughout the week and took them home.

It was super fun!
